Herbert Hamilton Thompson, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at his home.
He was born in Smyth County, Virginia to the late James Amon Thompson & Mary West Thompson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Loretta Thompson, and his siblings; Francis Rhoten, Claude Thompson, Lee Thompson, Lloyd Thompson & David Ambrose Thompson. He was Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He had retired from the Brunswick Corp. after 17 years of service and from the Department of Corrections after 15 years. Mr. Thompson was an avid Coon Hunter.

Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM on Thursday, April 5, 2012 from the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with Rev. Roger Frost, Rev. David Neitch & Rev. Allen Johnsey officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home or any time at the home of Jimmy & Rita Thompson. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at the Slemp Cemetery in Sugar Grove with Full Military Honors being rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667.
