Virginia Waddell

Virginia Alleen Irvin Vaught Waddell Age 90 ~Born September 27, 1921~passed away Friday April 13, 2012 in her residence at the Laurels Retirement & Assisted Living Norton, VA

Virginia graduated from Sugar Grove High School Sugar Grove, VA in 1939. She married Ernie Vaught in 1940. They had two children, Phyllis A. Vaught Oakes and John Richard Vaught. Ernie preceded Virginia in death, and in 1959 she married Carl Waddell who also preceded her in death. Virginia retired from J C Penney after many years of service. She was an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, she simply enjoyed being outdoors. She was named for The Commonwealth it served as her lifelong home. She was born in the mountains of Southwest Virginia and life took her to the Roanoke Valley, to the Virginia Shores Isle of Wight and to Thornburg, before her final retirement home, back to the mountains. Virginia is survived by a daughter Phyllis Vaught Oakes & husband Ronnie of Wise VA and a son John R. Vaught of Thornburg, VA. Grandchildren Rhonda A. Oakes Kilgore and husband John of Gate City, VA Ranessa D. Oakes Jessee and husband Edward of Wise, VA Chad D. Vaught of Thornburg, VA. Great-granddaughters Kandace M. Kilgore Haigler, Dezarah S. Jessee and Great-grandson Kaden J. D. Kilgore Sisters: Beulah Burse, New Jersey, Mae Horne, Sugar Grove, VA, Francis Bennett, Sugar Grove, VA & Della Gaye Robbins, Marion, VA Brother: Laney Irvin, Cedar Springs, VA Funeral services will be held at 3:00 Monday April 16, 2012 at the Blue Springs United Methodist Church (3739 Cedar Springs Rd Rural Retreat, Virginia 24368). Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 2:00 -3:00 at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com.
