Mabel Beatrice Martin

Surrounded by her loving family Mabel Beatrice Martin passed away at her home on April 26, 2012. She was born on Jan 21, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Tancy Barker Blevins Martin and William Elkanah Blevins. Beloved by all who knew her she was a shining example of what we should all strive to be. Gentle, kind, loving, forgiving and always ready to help anyone who was in need. She spent a lifetime farming with her husband and family and was a true lover of nature in all its forms. Being a member of the Rush Creek Primitive Baptist Church was a great joy in her life and the sound of her beautiful singing was a blessing to all who heard her.

In addition to her parents Mabel was preceded in death by her husband John R. Martin, brother Kenneth (Luke)Blevins, three half- brothers, five step brothers, three half- sisters three step sisters, her step father Robert N. Martin one son-in-law Robert Henderson and a former son-in-law Michael Orr Addison.

Survivors include two sons John M. Martin and David R. Martin and wife Beverly of Chilhowie, Va. Seven daughters Peggy M. Roberts and husband John of Damascus, Va.
Helen B. Bryant and husband John, Eula Faye Doss and husband Jim, and Elaine Martin and husband Russ all of Chilhowie Va., Jean Bryant and husband Carl and
Debbie Henderson of Abingdon, Va., and Tammy Allison and husband James of Glade Spring Va. One brother Eugene Blevins of Chilhowie, VA. Three sisters-in-law Aileen Russell and husband James of Marion, Va. Grace Martin and Ruth Martin of Chilhowie, VA. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren , 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition she is survived by three loving care givers, Linda Colquitt, Mary Hicks and Teresa Greer.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rush Creek Primitive Baptist Church at 11a.m. on Sunday, April 29 with Elder Eddie Lyle and Elder Larry Blevins officiating. Pallbearers will be her sons-in-law and grandsons will be honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at the Bradley funeral home in Chilhowie, VA or anytime at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rush Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Don Widener 31331 Wright Road Damascus, VA 24236.
